Yu-Gi-Oh! life points calculator
Keep score for a Yu-Gi-Oh! duel. Type a number, tap Damage or Heal for either side, halve or double life points, and scroll the log to settle any dispute. Choose any starting total, or switch to a 2 v 2 tag duel. A coin and die are built in.

Battle damage in one line
damage = attacker ATK − defender ATK
A 2500 ATK monster attacking a 1800 ATK monster in attack position deals 700 damage to the defender’s controller. Attacking a monster in defence position works differently: if the attacker’s ATK is higher than the defender’s DEF the defender is destroyed and no damage is dealt (unless a card effect pierces), and if the DEF is higher the attacker’s controller takes the difference. Check the card text and current rulings for the details.
Halving, doubling and custom totals
Halving rounds up (2,551 → 1,276) and doubling multiplies by two (1,250 → 2,500). Pick Custom to start from any total from 1 to 99,999, and Tag duel to give each team of two one shared life total with both names on the label. “New duel” resets to the chosen starting total.
This is an unofficial fan tool. Yu-Gi-Oh! is a trademark of Konami and this site is not affiliated with them. Planning a deck? The hypergeometric distribution calculator gives the chance of opening with a specific card in your hand.
How to use the life points calculator
Pick the format and starting life points: 8,000 for a standard duel, 4,000 for Speed Duel, or a custom total from 1 to 99,999. Type the players’ names. Then enter an amount, or tap a quick button (100, 500, 1000 or 2000). Use damage to subtract it from a side’s life points and heal to add it. Half and double change a side’s total without typing a number. Every action goes into the log below, newest first, and Undo reverses the last one if you tapped the wrong side. New duel resets both totals.
Tag duels
Switch the format to Tag duel (2 v 2) to track two teams of two. Each team shares one life point total, and both partners’ names appear on the label. Damage, healing, halving and doubling all work on the team total in the same way as in a single duel.
Examples
- Direct attack: a 2500 ATK monster hits an empty field, so the other side takes 2500 damage: 8000 → 5500.
- Battle damage: 2500 ATK attacks 1800 ATK in attack position, so the defender’s side takes 700: 8000 → 7300.
- Halving: from 2551 life points, halving gives 1276, because the tool rounds up.
- Doubling: from 1250 life points, doubling gives 2500.
- Paying a cost: a card that costs 1000 life points is one damage entry of 1000 on your own side.
Coin and dice
Some cards ask for a coin toss or a die roll. The Flip coin and Roll die buttons give a fair random result and add it to the log, so both players can see it. A result written in the log is hard to dispute.
Speed Duel and other formats
Speed Duel uses a smaller deck, three monster zones and 4,000 starting life points, so choose 4,000 for it. Casual formats and house rules sometimes use other totals, such as 6,000 or 10,000. Pick Custom for those and enter the number once; New duel then resets to it every time.
Keeping the duel honest
The log records every change with the before and after totals. In a tournament, the official record is the one kept by the judge or on paper, but a clear log helps resolve disagreements about what was done and in what order. A duel ends when a side reaches zero life points, and the tool shows that side’s total as 0 and never below.
Common questions
How many life points does each player start with?
In the standard Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game each duellist starts with 8,000 life points. Speed Duels start at 4,000. Pick either, or choose Custom and type any total from 1 to 99,999 for house rules and special formats.
How do I work out battle damage?
If an attacking monster’s ATK is higher than the defender’s ATK (attack position), the controller of the defender loses the difference. Enter that number as damage. If both ATK values are equal, both monsters are destroyed and no damage is dealt.
Can I halve or double life points?
Yes. Halve rounds up, as the game does when life points are halved, so 2,550 becomes 1,275 and 2,551 becomes 1,276. Double multiplies by two for effects that double a total.
How does tag duel mode work?
Choose Tag duel (2 v 2) and enter four names. Each team of two shares one life total, so the page shows two totals labelled with both partners’ names. The counter does not enforce turn order or card text: check your format’s rules.
Is there a coin and dice roller?
Yes: use the coin and die buttons for card effects that call for a coin toss or a die roll. Results are random and shown in the log.
Does the tool block illegal plays?
No. It only keeps score and reduces life points to a minimum of zero. You and your opponent are responsible for following the rules of the game.
